The Pearsons have a lot on their plate. Kevin searches for his purpose and for Nicky while Kate and Toby take the next step in parenting baby Jack. Plus, Toby is keeping a secret from Kate.

It’s the end of summer vacation on the Oct. 1 episode of This Is Us, so it’s time for the Pearsons to have one last hurrah before school starts. Just before the Big Three start seventh grade, Jack and Rebecca decide to take the kids to the pool. The kids don’t initially want to go but they end up there anyway. Almost immediately, the kids go their separate ways. So much for a family pool day, huh?

Kevin and Randall run into some pals and Kevin ends up embarrassing Randall in front of the kids. In retaliation, Randall ruins one of Kevin’s cassette tapes. Meanwhile, Rebecca hovers over Kate, who is hanging out with two popular girls that she’s never spent time with before. When Kevin finds out that Randall ruined his tape, they get into a fight and Jack has to intervene. The boys don’t tell their dad why they’re really fighting so they go their separate ways without any consequences. Randall is still really upset with Kevin for humiliating them. “You’re supposed to be my brother,” Randall says. Later, Kevin goes to Jack and asks if thinks he’s a good person. Jack gives his typical but heartwarming Jack speech about how the Pearson men are complicated. The girls hanging out with Kate try to humiliate her at the pool, but she doesn’t let them get the last laugh.

In the present day, Kevin wired Nicky his bail money but he hasn’t heard anything from him. Kevin is maintaining his sobriety and going to AA meetings. He’s got a plant that he’s taking care of and going through the motions of his new movie, which M. Night Shyamalan is directing. He admits to his fellow AA members that he’s in “way over his head” with Kate and her kid after finding out that baby Jack is blind. He goes to all the doctor’s appointments but doesn’t know how to handle the situation.

Rebecca, Miguel, Kevin, and Madison join Kate and Toby at their new house as they prepare to meet with a professional who will help them take care of Jack. Miguel notices right away that Toby has lost a ton of weight. Toby says he’s just stressed and it’s clear he doesn’t want to make Kate feel bad about losing weight.

Randall and Beth also decide to celebrate the last day of summer break with the kids. Beth doesn’t know if the girls are going to go for it. Tess wants to get her hair cut while Deja wants to go ride the bus to prepare for the school year. Beth goes with Tessa and Randall goes with Deja. They agree to meet up later.

Deja tells Randall to sit away from her on the bus so he can see how she’ll handle herself when she’s alone. At first, Randall is fine, but when a man sits down and starts talking to Deja, he gets overprotective. Deja tells him that the “bus is full of weirdos” and he needs to trust her. He says he doesn’t want her riding the bus along for another year. As this is happening, Tess chops off her hair and Beth is a little worried about the big decision. In the end, Beth embraces Tess’s decision.

When they get a moment alone, Toby confesses to Rebecca that he’s worried about Kate and her true feelings about Jack being blind. There are so many things to worry about at the moment, but Toby is concerned about Kate the most. Kate has been keeping her emotions in check about everything until she brings up the new TV she and Toby splurged on. She says they bought it so Jack could start watching the Steelers early and that’s when she lets the emotions wash over her. It hits her that Jack will never be able to watch the Steelers. Kate later opens up to Kevin about how she’s feeling.

When Randall, Beth, and the girls get together, Randall tells Deja that she can ride the bus and the family plays a game of “worst-case scenario.” The Pearson family is ready to take on the new year and they end the day racing up the Rocky Steps. The episode ends with Deja texting Malik, Tess feeling self-conscious about her hair, Kevin showing up at Nicky’s door, and Toby lying to Kate. He’s not just going to the grocery store late at night. He’s also going to the gym!

Another injury takes another couple out of the competition. Ray Lewis quits after suffering a brutal foot injury before Movie Night. Plus, new couples hit the top of the leaderboard.

Movie Night on Dancing With the Stars begins with Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko dancing the tango to “Oh, Pretty Woman” from the romance classic Pretty Woman. Lauren is a good dancer but there’s just no wow factor yet. Len Goodman says their performance was “excellent” and “full of attack, drive, and purpose.” Bruno Tonioli has a few critiques but overall it was a “great performance.” Carrie Ann Inaba tells Lauren that she still needs to work on the musicality but is “loving” her confidence. Lauren and Gleb’s scores: Carrie Ann = 6; Len = 7; and Bruno = 7. Total score = 20.

Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten dance the rumba “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips from the hit comedy Bridesmaids. This movie is perfect because Hannah’s best friend, Olivia, is getting married. Olivia even asks Hannah if there’s a romance going on and Hannah shakes her head while smiling. Their performance is romantic and effortless. Bruno tells Hannah that she’s a”wonderful lyrical dancer” but she needs to work the floor more. Carrie Ann brings up that there was “no hip action” and it looked more like a cheerleading dance. Len also brings up that there needed to be more hip action but tells Hannah that she’s a “lovely dancer.” Demi Lovato, Demi Burnett, and Rumer Willis are in the audience cheering Hannah on! Hannah and Alan’s scores: Carrie Ann = 7; Len = 7; and Bruno = 7. Total score = 21.

Karamo Brown and Jenna Johnson take on the jive and pay tribute to Rocketman. Karamo’s pal, Taron Egerton, sends him some support ahead of the dance. Queer Eye’s Bobby Berk is in the audience supporting Karamo. Karamo and Jenna dance an energetic jive to Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing.” Carrie Ann says the performance was “not the greatest” and “there were a lot of mistakes.” Len admits that he liked that Karamo and Jenna started dancing the jive right away and didn’t mess around. However, he compares all the mistakes to a hickey — no matter how hard you try, you can’t cover it up. Karamo and Jenna’s scores: Carrie Ann = 5; Len = 5; and Bruno = 6. Total score = 16.

Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber are honoring the movie Selena. Ally calls Selena Quintanilla her “favorite artist of all time” so she’s excited to pay tribute to her. They dance a romantic and stunning rumba to Selena’s “Dreaming of You.” Len tells Ally that she did a “great job” and Bruno calls it “beautiful.” He sees that she put her heart and soul in the dance. Carrie raves, “That is exactly what we’re looking for.” She adds that it was “unapologetically amazing.” Ally and Sasha’s scores: Carrie Ann = 8; Len = 8; and Bruno = 8. Total score = 24. Their highest score yet!

Ray Lewis and Cheryl Burke are supposed to pay tribute to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off with their dance but an injury has put them out of the race. Ray tore a tendon years ago and admits that it’s been bothering him throughout his DWTS journey. He’s just dealt with the pain every practice. The doctor revealed that Ray has torn 3 tendons in his toes and it’s going to require surgery, so Ray and Cheryl have to leave the competition. Season 24 champion Rashad Jennings shows up to dance with Cheryl in Ray’s place and he is terrific.

James Van Der Beek is dedicating this week’s performance to his wife, Kimberly. He’s dancing the rumba to “Shallow” from A Star Is Born. The performance is gorgeous and romantic. “There was nothing shallow about that performance,” Bruno raves. Carrie Ann adds that the performance was “stunning.” James and Emma’s scores: Carrie Ann = 8; Len = 7; and Bruno = 8. Total score = 23.

Kate Flannery and Pasha Pashkov take on classic comedy 9 to 5 for their quickstep. Kate is truly the dark horse of season 28. She is great. “You are killing this game,” Carrie Ann tells Kate. Bruno raves, “Like the movie, this is a big hit.” Kate and Pasha’s scores: Carrie Ann = 8; Len = 8; and Bruno = 8. Total score = 24. Their highest score!

Lamar Odom confesses that he was sure he was going home last week, but he’s getting a second chance. Lamar and Peta Murgatroyd dance the cha-cha to “Old Time Rock and Roll” from Risky Business. He hits the dance floor in his underwear and has such a fun time dancing this week. Len admits that the performance started out “good” but the “wheels fell off a bit.” Carrie Ann notes that Lamar seemed “way more confident” this week and he was “right on beat until that one wrong step.” Lamar and Peta’s scores: Carrie Ann = 4; Len = 4; and Bruno = 4. Total score = 12.

Sailor Brinkley-Cook and Val Chmerkovskiy dance the tango to “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” from Mamma Mia, which happens to be Christie Brinkley’s favorite movie. Bruno tells Sailor that he sees she’s been working very hard and calls the performance a “great feel-good tango.” Carrie Ann brings up Sailor’s incredible “transformation” and says it was a “huge leap forward.” Len raves that the performance was “full of snap, crackle, and pop.” Sailor and Val’s scores: Carrie Ann = 7; Len = 8; and Bruno = 8. Total score = 23.

Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson pay tribute to Titanic by dancing the rumba to Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” It’s sensual and Kel continues to step up his game. Carrie Ann says it was “really solid dancing” but Kel was a bit tight. Len had a few critiques as well but says it was a “good solid performance.” Kel and Witney’s scores: Carrie Ann = 7; Len = 7; and Bruno = 7. Total score = 20.

Sean Spicer and Lindsay Arnold are the last couple to perform. They dance the cha-cha to “Night Fever” from Saturday Night Fever. Sean’s having a blast but the performance is not quite up to par. Carrie Ann notices that Sean is “just having a lot of fun” but the performance was “robotic.” Sean and Lindsay’s scores: Carrie Ann = 5; Len = 5; and Bruno = 5. Total score = 15.

The first couple who is declared safe is Ally and Sasha. The following pairs are also safe: Sean and Lindsay; Hannah and Alan; Lauren and Gleb; Kate and Pasha; James and Emma; Sailor and Val; and Karamo and Jenna. That means Lamar and Peta are in the bottom two along with Kel and Witney. Just when you think someone is going to be eliminated, Len announces that no one is going home because Ray and Cheryl had to withdraw!

The ‘door isn’t shut’ for Miley Cyrus and Kaitlynn Carter, but Miley no longer wants to ‘avoid’ something from her ended marriage with Liam Hemsworth.

Unlike the reports that succeeded Miley Cyrus’ split with Liam Hemsworth, 29, there’s no drama behind the pop star’s rumored split with Kaitlynn Carter, 31. Miley is just finally ready to be single, following back-to-back romances. “Miley and Kaitlynn are still all good, there is no tension and no big drama. It was just a case of Miley realizing she needed to pump the breaks because she was jumping right from her marriage right into another relationship,” a source EXCLUSIVELY tells HollywoodLife. A report of Miley’s split with Kaitlynn surfaced on Sept. 21, six weeks after they were first seen kissing and cuddling in Lake Como, Italy. Those photos were taken just one day before Miley and Liam announced the end to their eight-month marriage (and an on-again, off-again relationship that spanned 10 years) on Aug. 10 — Liam went on to file for divorce on Aug. 21.

There was no waiting period between Miley’s romances with Liam and Kaitlynn — she just got “caught” in the moment. “She has such an intense connection to Kaitlynn and they’re such good friends, so once they got together things started moving so fast and she got very caught up,” our source continues. “It was like an instant relationship which was really fun and comforting, but also kind of a crutch because Miley has a lot of emotions to process about her marriage ending and she just can’t do that if she just jumps straight into another relationship.” Miley wants to step outside of her comfort zone now, alone.

“Being with Kaitlynn is an easy way for her to avoid the hard feelings and Miley doesn’t want to do that anymore,” our insider further tells HollywoodLife. “So as great as things are with Kaitlynn, she knows the healthy thing to do is to take time to focus on her own healing.” The brief romance was so great, our insider doesn’t rule out the possibility of a reunion: “The door isn’t shut with them, but right now Miley is committed to being single and doing the work on herself. “

As for why Miley still decided to jump into another romance ASAP, a second source explains that the singer has had a lot to deal with. “Miley is a very unique person and goes by the beat of her own drum. She doesn’t like separation. Her parents went through episodes themselves,” the second insider tells HollywoodLife, referring to Billy Ray and Trish Cyrus’ divorce case that was dismissed in 2017.

There is also Miley’s former home with Liam that they lost to the Woolsey Fire in Nov. 2018, which still continues to haunt her. In fact, she credited this loss as what pushed her and Liam to tie the knot in Dec. 2018, which she revealed in her March 2019 cover story for Vanity Fair. “It’s all been a pretty emotional time losing her home in the fires, losing her marriage. She is still trying to deal with it all. And now she is taking the steps to do that, to slow down a little bit and reflect and make sure she comes first, that her emotions are met,” our second source tells HollywoodLife. So, the choice to be single is personal, and not reflective of how Miley feels about Kaitlynn. “Kaitlynn is very special to Miley, they are good. No ill will at all between the two and they might try something again in the future but for now Miley needs to do her own thing,” the source adds. “That will be best for everyone.”

The ‘RHOA’ family is growing by one. Kandi Burruss is reportedly expecting her third child via surrogate, and it will be a big part of the new season’s storylines.

Baby joy is on the way for Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss. The 43-year-old and husband Todd Tucker are  expecting a little boy or girl via surrogate, sources tell PEOPLE magazine. This will be the second biological child for the couple, who will join three-year-old big brother Ace. Kandi has a beautiful 16-year-old daughter Riley Burruss by ex Russell Spencer while Todd has a 22-year-old adult daughter Kaela. This is wonderful news for Kandi, who was looking into potential surrogates during season 11 of RHOA.

While Todd wasn’t completely on board with having another baby via surrogate, Kandi was bound and determined to be a mom again. She had a high risk pregnancy with Ace so it was the safest way to go to expand their family, though it left her with mixed feelings. It turned out that pal Andy Cohen — who though a surrogate had his son Benjamin in February — gave her some advice that left her feeling better about having someone else carry her child.

Kandi revealed in a February episode of the now canceled E! late night talk show Busy Tonight that, “I had made a comment. I said something like, ‘I guess I’m gonna have a baby mama.’ And he said to me, ‘Don’t you ever say that because you are the mother. And to say she’s your baby’s mom is taking away from you.’ It made me feel better.”

The following month when Kandi appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, a caller and RHOA viewer asked how the process was going and if we were going to see a baby added to their family anytime soon. “I don’t want to tell too much. But we have moved forward, God willing,” she said to a round of audience applause. The surrogate and their baby journey will reportedly be a prominent storyline for Kandi during the upcoming season 12 of RHOA.

Congratulations to Cassie and Alex Fine! The expectant couple tied the knot on Sept. 25, one month after getting engaged.

How exciting is this? “Me & U” singer Cassie Ventura, 33, and fiancé Alex Fine, 26, were married in a ceremony overlooking the ocean in Malibu on Sept. 25. The couple only got engaged on August 24, making this pretty much the shortest engagement ever. Fans knew something was up when it was revealed that the couple allegedly picked up their marriage license in California the day after their engagement. In California, the couple has 90 days to tie the knot before the marriage license expires.

Cassie wore a gorgeous white off the shoulder dress with large puffy sleeves. Her pregnant belly could be seen through the dress and she wore a lace veil over her head with her hair long and loose. The officiant was film director Peter Berg, who posted a photo of the ceremony to his Instagram you can see here with the caption: “By the power vested in me…long may you ride!”

Of course, Cassie and Alex have never been about taking things slow. The “Long Way 2 Go” singer started dating the celebrity trainer in December 2018, just two months after she split with her longtime boyfriend, Diddy. She posted a photo of herself and Alex kissing to Instagram on December 29, shortly after her ex-boyfriend professed his love for her on the same platform. Cassie and Alex announced on June 12, 2019, that they were expecting a baby together. The overjoyed parents-to-be announced the happy news on — where else? — Instagram, with Cassie writing, ““Can’t wait to meet our baby girl 💗 Love You Always & Forever.” So sweet!

Two months later, on August 24, Alex popped the question with an elaborate, cowboy-themed proposal in the desert. Alex literally rode up to Cassie on horseback, jumped down, and gave Cassie a diamond ring. It’s no surprise that their wedding was so romantic!

Congratulations again to the happy couple! And long may they and their baby girl ride!
